Don McLean - BBC Sessions, Volume 2: In Concert, Hard Rock, Manchester, Britain, 7-26-1975

I got a request today to post more of Don McLean's BBC stuff. I had one ready to go, so here it is. It's a short concert from 1975.

1975 was kind of an odd time for the BBC to want to broadcast a Don McLean concert. He'd had two huge hits in 1972 ("American Pie" and "Vincent") and two smaller ones in 1973 ("Dreidel" and "If We Try"), but then no more through the time of this concert. In fact, he didn't even release a new album in 1975. His previous album was "Homeless Brother" in 1974. He did have one very minor hit with the song "Wonderful Baby" from that album, but that isn't included here. However, some of the other songs are from that album, like "La La Love You," "Homeless Brother," and "The Legend of Andrew McGrew."

This is a solo acoustic concert, just McLean and his guitar. It also is fully unreleased.

Some weeks back, a commenter noted there was another McLean concert for the BBC in 1972, for the "Sounds for Saturday" show. I can't find that anywhere. If anyone has it, please share it with me! Then I'll rename this one to "Volume 3."

Grieves Brings the Out Cold Tour to the Lodge Room

Didier Malherbe in 1990's Fetish CD [plus 1979 Bloom, 1981 Melodic Destiny, 1986 Faton Bloom, 1989 Saxo Folies]

  I thought for sure I posted him before, but only in connection with Faton Cahen, here , and Patrice Meyer . Of course he's most known for the work he did with Gong . From the requested album Fetish, released 1990, the last 2 songs feature synth player Rykiel, discogged here .  These are really lovely, consider Hors D'oeuvres: I'm assuming everyone is already familiar with the great Bloom album and Faton Bloom, which is a kind of follow up from 1986 with Cahen.  From that one, the lovely but oddly named Vulvox: From the cassette only release with guitarist Yan Emeric, A Breughel really blew me away in its compositional glory, I am not sure which of his paintings the progressive complexity could be alluding to: Otherwise this release is a bit of mixed bag.
