HEBL x ZooDeVille x Slug – The Detour (Review)

HEBL x ZooDeVille x Slug have teamed up for this exclusive EP, The Detour. ZooDeVille of the No Fun Collective and Slug of Atmosphere collaborate, switching verses on this new project, with production handled by HEBL. The project inspired based after their experiences from the summer of ’23 when all three toured together.

“Mesquite” starts off with themes of self-reflection, identity, and the complexities of relationships amidst fame and personal struggles. ZooDeVille expresses a sense of disconnection despite touring and enjoying success, while Slug dives into a more introspective perspective, dealing with inner turmoil and the illusions of relationships.

Leading with the track Valencia, the project delves into deep introspection, emotional struggle, and a search for meaning. Moving towards the track Tucson, Slug and ZooDeVille go back-to-back on verses, blending introspection, humor, and social commentary. Asheville takes listeners on a journey through self-discovery, struggles with authenticity, and a critique of superficiality.

Concluding the journey with Pittsburgh, Slug and ZooDeVille deliver rapid-fire bars over a fast-paced techno/EDM beat, filled with vivid imagery and a mix of introspection, humor, and social commentary.

Album Rating 8/10
