"The Grey Area" EP by 3rty & Kid Marley


Life is not black and white and the Nigerian duo of 3rty & Kid Marley are interested in exploring The Grey Area.

3rty's soulful ministrations mixed with the high energy delivery of Kid Marley combines to create a project that covers a wide sonic range from indie pop to house and tribal African music. With organic instruments used in abstract composition, the duo take extreme ends of each story and work their way towards the middle, taking us along on a journey to The Grey Area.

The EP kicks off with 'Sorry', which tackles the hypocrisy of half-hearted apologies. 'You' has Kid Marley serenading in his native Igbo tongue with a special promise to his love, followed by 'Dark Clouds' which reveals uncertainties in everyday life. 'Thots' explores the waters of love and heartbreak, and 'Ogunfe' is a joyful song centred around the good things of life. The child's play of 'Erekere' follows, interpolating the hit of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, a Fuji Icon from Nigeria, with the sounds of The Grey Area. Denge Pose rounds off the EP warning of pride and arrogance.

Grieves showcased an intimate, rare performance, delivering songs from their catalog including Irreversible , 88 Keys & Counting , Together/Apart , Winter & the Wolves , Running Wild , and their latest album, Canopy . The Out Cold tour made its final stop here in Los Angeles, giving the crowd a chance to celebrate Grieves’ birthday. The Out Cold Tour was accompanied by The Street Sweepers and SOLO of Horrorshow . Didier Malherbe in 1990's Fetish CD [plus 1979 Bloom, 1981 Melodic Destiny, 1986 Faton Bloom, 1989 Saxo Folies]

  I thought for sure I posted him before, but only in connection with Faton Cahen, here , and Patrice Meyer . Of course he's most known for the work he did with Gong . From the requested album Fetish, released 1990, the last 2 songs feature synth player Rykiel, discogged here .  These are really lovely, consider Hors D'oeuvres: I'm assuming everyone is already familiar with the great Bloom album and Faton Bloom, which is a kind of follow up from 1986 with Cahen.  From that one, the lovely but oddly named Vulvox: From the cassette only release with guitarist Yan Emeric, A Breughel really blew me away in its compositional glory, I am not sure which of his paintings the progressive complexity could be alluding to: Otherwise this release is a bit of mixed bag.
