Seattle fans of masterful musicianship are in for a treat as Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley hosts ukulele legend Jake Shimabukuro for four nights of breathtaking performances starting Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 7:30 PM (PDT). Shimabukuro will be joined by talented bassist Jackson Waldhoff for a series of six shows, including Thursday and Sunday at 7:30 PM, and Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM. The series is proudly supported by KNKX.
Shimabukuro has redefined the ukulele for modern audiences, elevating the instrument to new heights with his innovative style, technical prowess, and genre-blending versatility. Beginning his journey at age four under his mother’s guidance, Jake first gained global attention when his YouTube cover of George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” went viral. Since then, he has graced some of the world’s most prestigious venues, from The Hollywood Bowl and Lincoln Center to the Sydney Opera House, and performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. His collaborations read like a who’s who of music legends, including Yo-Yo Ma, Béla Fleck, The Flecktones, Jimmy Buffett, Jack Johnson, Bette Midler, Ziggy Marley, Sonny Landreth, Billy Strings, Lukas & Willie Nelson, and Warren Haynes. A recognized innovator, Shimabukuro was even nominated by President Joe Biden to serve on the National Council on the Arts.
Joining him is Jackson Waldhoff, a bassist hailing from Honolulu, Hawai’i. Having grown up in Kyoto, Japan, Waldhoff moved to Hawai’i in 2010, where he took up guitar and bass as a way to make friends while learning English. Since graduating from audio engineering school in 2018, Waldhoff has worked closely with Shimabukuro on projects including Trio, Jake & Friends, and collaborations with Alan Parsons. Touring together since 2018, the duo delivers tight, intricate performances that highlight their chemistry and musical storytelling.
