Cohen, widely recognized as one of his generation’s pivotal jazz figures, leads the Emmet Cohen Trio and is the creative force behind the Masters Legacy Series, celebrating the music of jazz icons while inspiring a new generation of listeners. A 2019 winner of the American Pianists Awards and a 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition finalist, Cohen has performed across the globe at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Village Vanguard, Birdland, and major festivals such as Newport, Monterey, and North Sea Jazz Festival. His innovative “Live From Emmet’s Place” livestream series has brought Harlem’s rent-party energy to audiences worldwide, reaching tens of millions of viewers.
Cohen’s artistry is celebrated for combining technical mastery with soulful storytelling. Stereogum critic Phil Freeman notes: “When Cohen is in full flight, with Poole slamming the kit around the room behind him, he reminds me of Ahmad Jamal: not the genteel Jamal you hear on record, but the wall-banging, holy-shit Jamal I saw in concert a few years ago, who rolled across the keyboard like a thunderstorm.”
