You can search far and wide, but there is nothing that quite measures up to a mother’s love.

That notion isn’t lost on Sup3r8 (pronounced “Superb”), who just released a soul-kissed new single, “Love Me Like My Mama Do,” to kick off Mother’s Day weekend.

Over a lush, vintage R&B soundscape — complete with glistening harmonies, dreamy strings, and funk-influenced guitars — Sup3r8 (real name Carlton Marshall) utilizes his gorgeous tenor vocals to illustrate his search for true love. It’s a search that has come up empty, as our protagonist laments running into short-lived feelings that have proven to be anything but unconditional.

“Love Me Like My Mama Do” is the first single under the Sup3r8 name, but by no means is it Marshall’s introduction to the musical landscape. Marshall is a descendant of the historic Night Train to Nashville movement on Jefferson St. in the mid-20th Century, and his father — popular R&B artist Carl Marshall — has had his work sampled by Kanye West, The Weeknd, and many more contemporary artists.
